It's a poor reflection on the energy industry that most (but not all) suppliers rely on customer apathy. Almost half of households in the UK have never switched energy supplier. There is a popular misconception that your loyalty to your supplier is rewarded by getting competitive prices. In reality completely the opposite is true. As a rule of thumb, the longer you stay with a supplier (unless you have a fixed price tariff), the more you pay!!

As of October 2015, if you are live in an average 3 bedroom semi-detached house with gas central heating and have never changed supplier, you could according to OFGEM, save up to £534 per annum. That's the reason your gas or electric supplier will never proactively change your tariff.
